Cinthia Marcelle
Cinthia Marcelle (1974, Belo Horizonte)
Cinthia Marcelle’s practice draws on a multitude of artistic processes. The raw material for her works is social relations and the everyday chaos that surrounds her. Marcelle moves between the organisation and the disorganisation of things and her own methods, creating interventions that suggest new arrangements, circuits and systems. Working in partnership with other artists and taking part in collective projects are also recurring practices in her work.
Having graduated in Fine Arts from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1997-1999), her work has featured in major exhibitions, including the Havana Biennial (2006); Panorama da Arte Brasileira, São Paulo and Madrid (2007 - 2008); São Paulo Biennial (2010); No Lone Zone, Tate Modern, London (2012); New Museum Triennial, New York (2012); Sala de Arte Publico Siqueiros, Mexico City (2012), Istanbul Biennial (2013); Sharjah Biennial (2013 and 2015); Secession, Vienna (2014); Duplex Gallery, PS1, New York (2016); The Family in Disorder, Modern Art Oxford (2018); and Soft Power, SFMoMA, San Francisco (2019). She has been awarded several prizes, including the International Prize for Performance, Trento (2006), the TrAIN Residency Award at Gasworks, London (2009), the Future Generation Art Prize, Kiev (2010) and a Special Mention in the Brazilian Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale (2017).
